Sports Psychology With Renowned Confidence Coach, Martin Perry
You May Have Bags Of Ability. You May Be Hugely Talented. But What If Your Confidence Is Shot To Pieces?

It's a bad feeling. The worst. You walk off, head bowed. You don't want to meet anyone's eye. The game has come and gone. And you have under-performed. Again.
Everyone keeps telling you that things will change. But when? And how? You might even feel like just giving up. Calling it a day.But no, you are better than that. You are determined to keep going. But things have to change.
Surely it doesn't have to be this way? There must be an answer. There must be...
Martin Perry - The Confidence Coach
Is Your Fragile Confidence Being Undermined By Self-Defeating Behaviour?
You may have talent. You may have plenty of ability. But it counts for nothing, if your performance is undermined, by any one of these five self-defeating behaviours:
1: Do you have a perfectionist streak? That whatever you do is never good enough?
2: Are you making the wrong decisions, especially under pressure?
3: Do you fear failure. Or even fear success?
4: Do you lack self-belief. Even though you have the talent to succeed?
5: Are you dwelling on your mistakes. Yet continue making them?
Does this sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone. Read On...
1: Do You Have A Perfectionist Streak?
Do you put yourself under pressure to be perfect? And then beat yourself up when you’re not? Perfectionism can eat away at self-confidence. The feeling that whatever you do isn't good enough.
Confidence Coaching will show you that you don’t have to be at 10/10 to succeed.
Golfer Colin Montgomerie admitted that his perfectionist streak prevented him from winning a Major title. He went to four Majors every season and aimed to perform a perfect 10/10. In other words, faultless golf.
He thought rivals would bring their 'A game' to the Majors and all be at their very best. He built the tournaments up in his mind to epic proportions. And so put himself under far too much pressure to perform.
It was only in 2007 that Monty realised he could win Major tournaments by playing at 8/10. Padraig Harrington won his first Major that year. He did not play perfectly at Carnoustie – he simply managed his game better than his rivals. And used sports psychology to superb effect!
What does operating at 8/10 mean?
It means being able to consistently do the simple things well. To not try to be perfect. And, this simple strategy is guaranteed to build up your confidence.
Would you like to work in a way that is free of stress and delivers results? Where you don’t have to be perfect. How much of a relief would that be?
What if you were shown that with Confidence Coaching, you could deliver results at 8/10. And still be successful!
2: You Make The Wrong Decisions... Especially Under Pressure.
Success or failure if often down to good decision-making. But perhaps you are making the wrong decisions, because you are not thinking clearly.
And the reason that you are not thinking clearly, is because you haven't mentally prepared properly for your game, speech or event.
You have no plan. You try to wing it. Deal with things as they come up. Sometimes you might get away with it. Usually you won't.
When England won the Rugby World Cup in 2003, Sir Clive Woodward pointed out that Johnny Wilkinson's drop goal winner was down to good decision making.
He said the team were Thinking Correctly Under Pressure. Or TCUP as Sir Clive named it.
What if Confidence Coaching showed you how to improve the quality of your decision-making?
What if you were shown how to prepare in a way that leads led to consistently better decision-making?
The better the decisions you make, the more your confidence will grow. The more your confidence grows, the better the quality of your decision-making.
3: You Experience Fear Of Failure or Fear Of Success.
Have you ever been in a situation where you have the chance to score a goal?
Or make a birdie at golf? Or close out a piece of important work? But somehow you didn't.
You know you had the ability. But you were scared. In case you lost. Or in case you failed to meet expectations.
And that fear caused you to tighten. To choke. Your palms to sweat. You see it all the time in penalty shoot-outs, where an experienced player hits a very tame penalty at the keeper or blazes wildly over the bar.
It's not a good feeling when this happens, is it? You rue those missed opportunities for days and weeks afterwards. You could have won. But you didn't.
What if you were shown how to overcome fear of failure and grasp the golden opportunities when they come your way? What if you could prepare for those moments?
Would that make a difference to your game?
4: You Lack Belief in Yourself... Even Though You Have The Talent.
Maybe you have talent. You know it and everyone tells you so. But yet your performances don't show it. You underperform again and again but you don't quite know why.
It is as if you don't quite back yourself. Are you staying in the comfort zone instead of really going for it?
You see it in those who never break through to the top level. Even though they have the same amount of raw talent as those who get to the top flight. It's not a question of talent. It's a question of how you think about that talent.
That belief is under the surface but it needs bringing out.
Because when you believe in yourself, confidence flows and you start performing to your potential. If I can give your back your self-belief, you will feel like a winner and a champion!
5: You Dwell On Your Mistakes ... And Then Make The Same Mistakes Again...
Whatever your line of work, you will make mistakes. It's normal. But it’s how you react to mistakes which makes a difference. Mentally strong and confident individuals can put mistakes behind them and move on quickly.
Perhaps, in the middle of a game, you dwell on your past mistakes. You think, 'Why did I do that?' Your mind is wandering and your concentration weakens. And that leads to another mistake.
It’s a vicious circle. Quickly your confidence falls to pieces as you beat yourself up for making another error.
What if you learned how to put mistakes behind you? It will lead to better concentration, less mistakes and more confidence!
My Name Is Martin Perry - I Solve Problems
Have you ever seen the film Pulp Fiction? In Quentin Tarantrino's classic movie, there is a body in the garage. Blood is everywhere. Jimmie's wife Bonnie will be home from work soon. So, an urgent call is put out to Winston Wolf, played by Harvey Keitel.
He arrives in less than ten minutes, and announces himself with quiet certainty at the door by saying, 'My name is Winston Wolf. I solve problems'.
Like Winston Wolf, I solve problems. Not bodies in the garage. But, problems of lost confidence. When I began coaching in 1996, it used to take me three months or more to restore a clients lost confidence.
Now I can do it in a single 30 minute phone call. Why?
Because experience has given me the wisdom to know exactly how and why people lose confidence. And what to do about it.
Confidence Coaching Can Do For You, What It Did For Them!
Greg Tansey Can't Stop Scoring!
Greg Tansey is one of the brightest young prospects in English football. He plies his trade with Stockport County, but it wont be long before Greg is playing at a higher level.
Greg contacted me recently, to get help in matching his performances to his potential. Inconsistency had been affecting his game.
Within hours of our first conversation, Greg had notched two goals, in a draw against Crewe Alexandra. Then he followed that up with a brace in a vital away win against Barnet. Then Greg won the League Two Player Of The Month Award for January.
With the self-confidence now flowing, Greg is on fire and the go-to player for County.
What could you achieve if your confidence matched your ability?
Billy Twelvetrees Puts Quins To The Sword
Recently Matt O'Connor, the Head Coach of Premiership rugby champions Leicester Tigers, invited my colleague Nalin Jay and myself, to work with young Tigers protegy Billy Twelvetrees.
Billy has been filling in for England international Toby Flood at fly-half, during the internationals. And Matt felt that it would do Billy's confidence the power of good, to have some input on the mental side of the game.
Recently at Welford Road, Billy put Harlequins to the sword, in an awesome display of kicking. Landing all of Leicester's eighteen points, including two penalties landed from well inside his own half.
Matt O'Connor described Billy's display as 'exceptional'. The Daily Telegraph noted that Billy Twelvetrees had served notice to England coach Martin Johnson. Sky Sports named Billy Man Of The Match, and called him 'the saviour of Welford Rd'.
What could you achieve with a boost to your confidence?
Glamorgan Win At Lords, For The First Time Since 1954!
Matthew Maynard was the Head Coach at Glamorgan County Cricket Club. In the 2010 pre-season, Matthew invited me to help with his players mental preparation.
Its been a very long time since Glamorgan won a County Championship cricket match at Lords. Fifty-six years in fact.
But that stop situation was finally broken, when the Welsh side crushed Middlesex by seventy-six runs in the second game of the 2010 season.
Glamorgan then followed that success, with a dramatic two-day win at Worcester. The first time they have won a match in two days since 2002! And this is the first time that Glamorgan have won two games in April - ever!
Then Glamorgan crushed Northampton by an innings, to move up to second in the County Championship table. This was followed up another innings win, this time over Gloucestershire. The first time Glamorgan have won successive matches by an innings since 1948.
Then amazingly, Glamorgan set a world record in their next match, a stunning defeat of Leicestershire. Trailing by 125 runs on the first-innings, Glamorgan bowled The Foxes out for only 71 runs.
Then went on the get the winning total of 196 runs, without the loss of a wicket. A world-record for a team trailing by such a first-innings deficit.
Glamorgan won only two County Championship matches in 2009. In the 2010 season they won seven matches. A significant improvement. Now that they have learnt to win again, Glamorgan will be looking for promotion to Division One in 2011.
Taking the journey from winners to champions.
