The Sports Psychology Blog
This Sports Psychology blog comes after Sven Goran Eriksson calls on Fabio Capello to award David Beckham his one hundreth England cap.
Football: David Beckham - One More Cap Please!

Sven Goran Eriksson, the Manchester City manager, said that he would phone the new England manager, Fabio Capello personally if David Beckham was not included in the Italian's first squad. And, in front of Brian Barwick, the FA chief executive, insisted that hundreds of guests toast Beckham and his hundredth cap. "He deserves it," Eriksson said.
Thus the Beckham sideshow continues. David and his one hundreth cap. Sure he has been a good servant to England. A hundred caps is a fine achievement. But his international career is one of significant underachievement. A talented player, who ultimately, failed to deliver on the world stage. In the matches that really counted. Against the world's best teams.
Dr Reality has now come to town. Sentiment cannot be allowed to go on fudging the truth. It is time to move on. It has been for some time. Lets us hope that Fabio Capello makes a swift and decisive mark. That he picks an England team based on current form and future possiblity. Not on whether a player 'deserves' to play or not.
It maybe that Fabio Capello decides to court favour with the England fans and awards Beckham his century against Switzerland. But, England's years of serial underachievement should be the potent reminder that negates such emotional decision-making.
