American Football: New York Giants - Resiliency!

Lawrence Tynes - Resilient

It's almost time for the teams to emerge from the tunnel ahead of the Super Bowl. As the New York Giants are being introduced to the world-wide audience, a key word keeps repeating itself. A defining quality. It's the word Resiliency. Resiliency. Over and over again. Like a mantra. Spoken by the players about themselves.

As the game plays itself out to it's tense finale, it is obvious that the quality of Resiliency is not just a fancy word to introduce the Giants. It is right at the heart of their success. The quality that defines their performance. A living, breathing embodiment of what they stand for.

To build a quality into individual or team performance. takes time. And dedication. It's easy to sit around and choose fancy words for the motto. But to live those words, those qualities, is different.

It means taking a quality like Resilience and studying it. Look for examples of it. Where in sporting history has it been demonstrated before? Where in world history has it been demonstrated before? What films can it be found in? What books? How do we recognise it? How do we build it into our training sessions? What can undermine it?

It means becoming experts in resiliency. Knowing its ways. Its rhythm. Its character. Its feeling. Then it can become the extra player. The difference between success and failure in tight games.

Resiliency was not the only reason the New York Giants claimed the Super Bowl. But it was their faithful companion in their hour of need.
