So one of the first things we learn of Fabio Capello, from his opening day with the England squad, is that he does not favour the chummy nickname or first name in addressing his England players. No. It's surnames. Ferdinand. Owen. Gerrard. Strictly business.
Capello is laying down a marker immediately. We are here for one reason only. To create a winning ethos. We do not need your 'personality'. We do not need your 'brand image'. No. We only want you. The footballer. Disciplined. Dedicated. Focused.
Capello is not here to make friends. Not here to be popular. He is dedicated to his God. The God of Winning. And will discard anything in the process, that does not serve that cause. No emotion. Totally single-minded. Ruthless.
The behaviour, attitude, habit and trend either serves the God Of Winning. Or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it goes. Agents. WAG's. Cliques. Hangers-on. First names. Arrivederci!
There will be complaints. There will be casualties. But England's years of serial under-performance, means that no one has any legitimate grounds to dispute Capello's methods. Dr. Reality has finally come to town!
