The Sports Psychology Blog
This Sports Psychology blog, comes as Sven Goran Eriksson is sacked as manager of Mexico.
Football: Sven Goran Eriksson - Sacked!

So Sven Goran Eriksson's short tenure as Mexico manager is over. World Cup qualifying defeat to Honduras, finally sealing the Swede's fate. But it's unlikely that Sven's term of unemployment will last long.
Even before his sacking, it was rumoured that Portsmouth were interested in recruiting him. And this, despite the fact that Sven has been sacked from his last three jobs. England. Manchester City. And now Mexico.
The fact that a Premiership side want him as their manager, suggests that current track record and managerial performance, is overshadowed by reputation. His England reign, was marked by under-performance on the world stage. Manchester City, started well under him. But that progress quickly faded into mediocrity. And now Mexico's World Cup campaign is stuttering along.
So why would you want Sven as your manager? Maybe it was Germany 1 England 5, that sealed his reputation. A result so surprising and unexpected, that it gave the impression that Sven was a miracle worker. He wasn't, but the euphoria that night in Munich evoked, has proved valuable currency for Sven.
He appears to have peaked as a manager. But that won't stop clubs seeking his services. Perception is everything in football. And the perception is that Sven Goran Eriksson, is still a top manager. But, perception may mask the truth.
