Darts: Phil Taylor - Winability!

Phil Taylor - The Compelling Focus

For the third match in succession at the World Championship, Phil 'The Power' Taylor looks certain to exit the competition. Struggling to find his game, his opponent, Alan Tabern, has the ascendancy. But, right there, when he really needs a big score, Taylor produces. Again and again.

It's the certain mark of the champion. It's found in those moments, those turning, game defining moments. It's as if Taylor instinctively knows when those moments are. And. despite being off his game, is able to find that magic. Magic drawn from the Well of Success. The Well of Success built over thirteen world titles.

The sporting greats all have this quality. When the chips are down, they find that something extra. It's as if the moment, creates a compelling focus. And in that focus, they dig deep, and find their A game. They draw it from the Well of Success like a magnet.

It's like a companion to the champion. A friend who never lets them down. A trusted ally to be relied upon. The champion knows it is there. That's why they never panic. Sometimes it gets too close for comfort. But the sporting greats have that great quality. The quality of winability. Finding ways to win in impossible situations.

And the more they do it - the more they will continue to do it. Each remarkable comeback builds the power of belief. Sustains the sense of certainty. And of course makes their opponents have to try extra hard to beat them. That's why the greats rarely lose the mental battle.
