The Sports Psychology Blog
This Sports Psychology blog comes, as Shane Warne announces that he would be open to coming out of international retirement, to play in the next Ashes series.
Cricket: Shane Warne - Comeback!

''If Stuart MacGill fell over and broke his leg, and there were no other spinners around, and Ricky came out and said, 'Mate, can you please help us out for this one-off tour? We need you,' that is something I would weigh up.'' The words of Shane Warne, discussing the possibility of a one-off Ashes return.
Given the subsequent response from Cricket Australia, there is little or no chance, of Warne being invited to make a return. And that's a good thing. Perhaps his success in the Indian Premier League, has reminded him, of the euphoria and heady big-match atmosphere, that top players thrive on.
And it's an understandable temptation. The adoring crowd; the horseplay and banter in the dressing-room; the psychological battle with top batsmen; the pressure to deliver; the satisfaction of success. Tournament poker may be stimulating, but it can't match the buzz of international sport.
Much of Shane Warne's success was based on his mystique. He would win many psychological battles with batsmen, before they had even arrived at the crease.
Somehow, a player coming out of retirement, doesn't have the same aura of invincibility about them, as one who is right at the top of their professional game. Better for Shane Warne to stay retired. That way, his legend remains undiminished.
Note: Regarding the reference to poker...Shane Warne has stated that he would like to dedicate more of his time, to playing the international poker circuit.
