Confidence Building Techniques For Coaches (Seminar)
An Overview
To be a successful coach of athletes means having more than the technical skills in your locker. It also requires you to have insight into the psychology of sport. The psychology of performance. And more specifically, insight into one of the great enigmas of performance, confidence.
It has been said on many occasions that when a team or performer has confidence, then there is no limit on what they can do. They perform without fear; without doubt. Their performance flows. Success follows success. They appear unbeatable.
Conversely, when they suddenly lose confidence, then they look a shadow of the performer they were. There is no flow. No spark. No belief. This loss of confidence is a mystery to most observers.
So what is confidence? Why do we lose it? Where does it go when we lose it? And, most importantly, how do we regain lost confidence? Important considerations for a sports coach.
Twenty four years of coaching clients, from both sport and business, has given me valuable insight into the secrets of why we lose confidence. And more importantly, how to regain it.
Why Performers Lose Their Confidence...
There are many reasons why an athlete loses their confidence:
• Fear of failure or fear of success
• Constant criticism - from others and yourself
• A perfectionist streak
• Negative comparison with your opponent / team-mates
• Self doubt
• Poor concentration or focus
• Worry about what others think of you
• Lack of mental preparation
• Performance errors
So, performers lose their confidence for many reasons. The good news however, is that lost confidence is NOT lost forever.
The Confidence Building Techniques For Coaches seminar, is a chance to share practical tips, strategies and insights that will enable you to support your performers more effectively. To help them regain lost confidence faster and easier.
