Is Fragile Confidence Costing You Legs, Sets & Matches?
My PDPA Approved Confidence Coaching, Will Get Your Darts Back On Track
Here's a typical scenario. Your fired up. Ready to go. Feeling good. And you start the match on fire. Heavy scoring. Take out the double. First leg to you. You have momentum.
Your opponent seems off the pace. And the second leg is no different. You take it in style. Your game is flowing. This is great. Your going to win this in a canter.
Then your mind drifts. Maybe to your next match. Or what you will do after the game. But it drifts. And with it goes your concentration. And your momentum. Next thing you know, is that you are losing to someone, you should be beating.
However hard you try, you can't get that rhythm back. Or your lead. Or the match. You walk off, frustrated. And angry. It could have been so different. Recognise this?
Or Do You Suffer From Missed Doubles Syndrome?
Here's another scenario. Your throwing well. Hitting the tons, 140's and occasional 180's. Your dominating the match. And your getting to the doubles first. Everything is perfect. Apart from one thing. You just can't hit those doubles.
Your opponent nips in and steals the leg, right from under your nose. It's daylight robbery. You continue to throw well, but as you get to the doubles, doubts and uncertainty start to get to you.
You just can't be certain that your going to nail it. Your arm feels a little heavier, and the more you miss the doubles, the more you start to expect to miss.
Another leg is taken away from you that should have been yours, and there goes the set. Those crucial missed doubles start to play on your mind. Pretty quickly your average plummets.
You just can't get those misses out of your head. 'What a missed opportunity', 'If only I nailed it', 'I could be a set up by now'.
These distracting thoughts weigh heavily on you. Your focus weakens, and with it goes your confidence and ultimately the match. You were throwing well enough to win, but...
Or - Maybe Slow Player Syndrome Beats You...
You know what it’s like. You start your match brimming with confidence. Throwing with rhythm. Throwing with confidence. Those first three darts come out of your hand, really well. You’re set for a good match.
Then, before you know it, you’re struggling to put any score on the board. You lose your rhythm. You lose your confidence. Why?
Because you are playing against a slow player. Somebody, who throws a single dart in the time it takes you to throw three.
As you wait, for what seems like forever, for them to complete their throw, you become impatient. You’ll finish this game off quickly to show them, how darts should really be thrown.
But as you become impatient, you lose your natural rhythm. You start to throw too quickly. You snatch at the darts.
Your opponent meanwhile, carries on in their own sweet way. Taking all the time in the world. Untroubled and unrushed. You are seething with rage. Partly at them. And also at yourself, for seeing a winnable match slip through your fingers.
The Mental Test That Is Darts
The game of darts, is renowned, as both a physical and mental test. A test of technique. And a test of the mind. To be a winner on the professional circuit, you need to develop both aspects of your game.
Success or failure, can often be measured, by the smallest of margins. Meaning that, so much of this great game, ends up being played between the ears.
Talent alone, is not enough. Without confidence and mental strength, it’s a struggle to make it, in the demanding professional game.
Having confidence, means that you are able to think clearly under pressure. It means, that you can keep your emotions under control. It means, that you can play your best darts, when you have to and need to.
Here's Some Of The Typical Problems I Solve...
Problems begin, when a player loses their confidence. When doubts and frustration set in. It starts off, maybe, with a missed double. A lost match. Then a run of defeats. Then, you can’t buy a win. And yet, you can’t quite put your finger on the reason why. Is this you?...
- A run of defeats, can feel like they will never end.
- You have forgotten what it feels like, to be successful.
- Nerves hold sway, when you try to close out matches.
- The harder you try, the worse it seems to get.
- You almost expect to miss crucial doubles.
- Frustration eats away at you.
- You know you have the talent. It just isn't being matched by achievement.
The good news is that lost confidence is not lost forever. My coaching will help you overcome those nagging doubts, and start to hit doubles, with real confidence again.
Remember - I understand why we lose confidence, and more importantly how to get it back.
I Know Why Darts Players Lose Confidence...
There are many reasons, why darts players lose confidence:
- Confidence can be destroyed, by losing matches against opponents, who you know that you are better than.
- A succession of defeats or poor performances, can undermine confidence.
- Failure to close out matches, can weaken confidence, very quickly.
- Throwing away a winning lead, can undermine confidence.
- Missing critical doubles, can have a negative effect on confidence
- Unexpected downturns in form, can lead to fragile confidence.
