Football Psychology - The Craig Bellamy Effect

Craig Bellamy - Football PsychologyCardiff City under-performed in last seasons Championship play-off final. Favourites to beat Blackpool, they fell badly short at the final hurdle.

Beaten play-off finalists invariably start the new season with a hang-over. Memories of Wembley disappointment linger. All the mental, physical and emotional effort that it takes to get to Wembley, leave the tank empty.

And so it was expected that Cardiff City would struggle in the early part of the new Championship season. Then along came Craig Bellamy.

Signed on loan from Manchester City, Bellamy breezed into the Principality with a swagger and a strut. Since his arrival, The Bluebirds have played two, won two and moved up to second in the table.

Sometimes a player can arrive at a football club and instantly make a difference. Make a difference by virtue of their belief. Their atttitude. Their expectations. Their energy and enthusiasm.

Cardff City could have started this season feeling sorry for themselves. But Bellamy's presence won't allow that. He is the perfect antidote to a play-off final defeat.

Without him, Cardiff may have struggled this season. With Bellamy, they look certainties for promotion. Why? Because Bellamy has brought a winners attitude and belief, to an already strong Championship side.

Players feed off Bellamy's desire, and raise their levels. They dont want to let him down. Winning becomes contagious, and the urge to right the wrongs of Wembley defeat creates a motivated team.

This could have been a difficult season for Cardiff City. The inspired signing of Craig Bellamy could turn it into a memorable one.
