The Players - Psychological Types
1: The Prima Donna
Talented, but believes too much in their own publicity. Big ego. Prone to tantrums and throwing their toys out of the pram.
The Assassin is the perfect type for the Prima Donna. See Sir Alex Ferguson and Eric Cantona. The Assassin doesn't react personally to the tantrums and the Prima Donna respects the Assassin's wisdom. Like father and son, they compliment each other. The Prima Donna could be the player the Assassin never was.
2: The Nervous Youngster
Given an opportunity in the first team, but scared of the older pros. Frightened of making a mistake.
The Organiser can really help the nervous youngster thrive. The Organiser will not be scared of throwing the youngster in, and will give them clear and precise instructions as to what they expect of them, but not in a demanding way.
3: The Hot Headed Midfielder
Committed to the cause - yes; but acts before they think.
The Hot Headed Midfielder will enjoy working with The Motivator, but this can lead to excess of passion leading to a surfeit of red-cards. Thus the Organiser may provide the Hot Headed Midfielder with the emotional tools necessary to create an alignment between passion and discipline. See Sven and Wayne Rooney.
In the calm atmosphere of the England set-up, Rooney has learnt to curb his excesses. He is taught how emotional control allied to high skill levels = an international player.
4: The Cynical Old Pro
Seen it all before. Doesn't take easily to new methods.
Surprisingly, The Thinker can rally benefit the Cynical Old Pro. By showing him how he can prolong his career by better diet, lifestyle, training methods, the Cynical Old Pro can rediscover his love for the game. Alternatively, the Cynical Old Pro may simply be too cynical to listen to the Thinker.
5: The Maestro
Oozing with talent, has everything except work rate.
The Assassin can get the best out of this player by giving him edge through powerful targets and goals. See Jose Mourinho and Joe Cole.
6: The Enthusiastic Veteran
Still going strong into their late thirties.
The Enthusiastic Veteran will enjoy working with The Hard Man who will recognise their experience and make them a cultural leader on and off the pitch to help trigger the turnaround in performance
7: The International
Plays at the highest level. The International will thrive in the presence of The Thinker, who will stimulate them mentally with their ideas.
