Golf Psychology By Renowned Golf Psychologist Martin Perry

Ian Threw His Putter In The Lake In Disgust. Self-Doubts Were Destroying His Game. Now He's The Best Putter At The Club. After Only One Golf Psychology Session!

Martin Perry - Golf PsychologyIt all came to a head at the par four fourteenth. A great drive off the tee. A well honed six iron, right to the heart of the green. Setting up an excellent birdie opportunity. A nice four footer for a three. It looked a simple putt.

But for Ian, it was anything but simple. For this was a golfer who had lost all confidence in his putter. He'd suffered self-doubts for twelve years. Apparently it all began around 1996 when he missed a short three foot putt, to win a big club event.

The lads at the club had ribbed him about it ever since. Not knowing that their jibes were eating away at Ian. He took the ribbing in good faith. But inside, he had started to really believe, that he was a bad putter.

After a few years, his fears over a short putt, had started to grow. He knew his grip on the putter was tightening. But, there was nothing he felt, that he could do about it. The doubts were starting to beat him. A long handled putter helped him a little bit. But he still dreaded that short three footer for a birdie or par.

Back To The Fourteenth...

Like most of his putts that day, he left it miserably short. Scared of going too far past. Then, with a three footer for a solid par, he dragged it left. To his horror, he then watched his bogey putt miss on the right. Do you recognise this scenario?

That was when he saw red. His putter, went straight into the lake by the fourteenth. Ian walked off the course, there and then. He'd had enough. Years of frustration, came out in that one moment of madness. Golf had stopped feeling like fun.

By the time he'd got home and cooled down, he knew that things had to change. He couldn't carry on like this. Either he packed in the game, or finally resolved this issue.

But he loved golf too much to pack it in. He loved the magic moments, when everything came together. The player; the shot; the hole. That unbelievable feeling of euphoria, the game of golf can bring.

And his wife Ellen told him, that he should get some kind of golf psychology help.

Then, Through Golf Psychology, Things Start To Change...

Martin Perry - Golf Psychology, Golf PsychologistSo, that's how Ian came to call me on Saturday morning. He was given my name by Richard, a colleague at work, who had been through a similar sort of golfing hell. Brilliant tee to green. A shambles with the putter.

It didn't take me that long to sort out Ian's problem. I must have helped hundreds of golfers through exactly the same dilemma. I met him at his golf club in leafy Surrey, and watched him putt.

He had lost his rhythm. His head was all over the place. His hands were terribly tense. He was putting 'not to miss', rather than to hole it. He had become scared of short putts.

We stayed on the practise green for a couple of hours. That's because Ian didn't want to leave. He was holing putts again, and didn't want to break the spell. He was actually a very good putter, that had simply got into some very bad mental habits.

It was nearly dark when we finished. Ian was elated, as he re-discovered the joys of watching the ball roll into the cup from all distances.

Ian had self-doubts for twelve years. By that evening, after one golf psychology session with me, the doubts were gone. And they have not plagued his game since!

Important Note: The reason it only took one session to solve Ian's problem, is that, I understood why he had self-doubts. And more importantly, I knew how to rid Ian of them.

The Golfer Reborn...

After that night on the practise green, Ian was a golfer re-born. Six weeks later he was crowned club champion. He holed everything, that afternoon at the Club Championship, last September. Including a thirty footer at the tenth, that he said, was the finest putt that he had ever made.

Ian called me that evening to thank me. He said that it was the best investment he had ever made in his golf game. And that he only wished he had used golf psychology sooner. Would have saved an awful lot of frustration.

He had read all the books, by the gurus like Dr. Bob Rotella. And paid hundreds of pounds for lessons over the years. But somehow, the doubts didn't seem to go away.

The reason for that, is books can help. But they are not as effective as having an expert right there, by your side, to help you every step of the way.

Also, golf coaches are good at resolving technical issues. But, from my experience, they do not have the expertise to help with problems, related to how a player is thinking.

It's Not Just You That Has Golf Psychology Problems On The Course...

Ian was only too pleased to oblige, when I asked if I could tell his story on the website. I'm delighted for Ian. Golf should give pleasure, not leave you so frustrated that you throw your clubs in the lake. But we all know, why that happens, don't we?

Maybe your frustrated with your game, like Ian was. Unable to convert birdie chances. Or maybe it's off the tee that your problems begin. The harder you try the worse it becomes. Or perhaps you blow leads in tournaments.

You might have considered calling a golf psychologist before. But maybe, you thought that things would somehow get better. Or, you weren't really sure what was involved. Or would it really work?

What Was I Thinking?...

Lots of golfers, at all levels, become affected by self-doubts, negative comparison with others, beating yourself up and so on.

  • Too much time to think. Too many things to think about.
  • These negative thoughts eat away at confidence. Doubts set in.
  • Simple putts are missed - You dread those little putts
  • You become ultra cautious - The fun goes out of the game
  • You have doubts over what club to take? - Indecision sets in
  • You build up anxieties about particularly holes - You repeat the same mistakes
  • You rush shots - You want to get it over with
  • You take too long over shots - You know your going to hook it
  • You go mad at yourself when you hit a bad shot - It must help...but does it?
  • A good round disintegrates - Again and again
  • My one to one confidence coaching will get you back on track.
Who Has Benefited From Golf Psychology?...

Since the beginning of the 2010 season, I have helped:

  • A 14 handicap golfer shoot an extraordinary net score of 63, around historic St. Andrews
  • A European Tour professional, overcome his long-term anxiety of playing in front of family and friends
  • An amateur who had never won a tournament, win three in succession
  • A female tour professional, overcome her anxiety over short putts
  • A top amateur in the habit of throwing away winning leads, learn to win from the front
  • A player who had had the 'yips' for twelve years, overcome them in one session with me
  • A golf enthusiast, who had not hit the ball straight for years, hit the longest and straightest drives of his life. Three in succession, including driving the green at a par four!

Gary Leboff From 'Golf Monthly' Has This To Say...

Gary Leboff - Golf Psychology, Golf PsychologistGary Leboff is the Mind Guru for Golf Monthly. He's the player mentioned above, that shot an extraordinary net score of 63 around St. Andrews. I coached Gary, before he went to play at the home of golf.

He had this to say about his experience of working with me...'Martin Perry is a profoundly gifted coach and mentor. Not only does Martin provide his clients with a rapid improvement in sporting performance, but his highly creative ways of working, open the door to a world of personal discovery. Should you ever have the opportunity of working with Martin, I strongly recommend that you do so' - Gary Leboff, Mind Coach, Golf Monthly Magazine.

What Are Some Of The Things We'll Be Doing Martin?...

Fairhaven Golf Club & Golf PsychologyLet me tell you something important about self-doubts. The doubts take hold when the player has no idea, where their chip or putt will finish up. In their mind, anything can happen. And it usually does!

It is this feeling of uncertainty, that creates the anxiety that leads to the self-doubts. My work with you, will remove this uncertainty. I will show you how play golf, with a feeling of complete certainty.

Once you know and believe where your shot will finish up, your doubts will disappear.

It sounds too easy to be true doesn't it! But this is what will happen when we work together.

Recently at Fairhaven Golf Club in Lytham, I worked with a tour player who had not holed a decent sized putt for three years! By the end of the session, he was holing putts from over twenty five feet.

He had gone from a feeling of uncertainty, to believing he could hole every putt. And Fairhaven members were coming onto the practise green, to ask what his secret was!

And he began his round the following day, by holing a monster putt from thirty feet. And I wasn't even there to coach him. He had simply taken the tools I had given him, and applied them.

He Was Holing Them From Off The Green!...

Recently in Garforth, North Yorkshire, I was coaching a good club player, who had lost all confidence in his chipping. He called me, urgent to get some expert advice. As I watched him chip, the ball was just squirting off his club, and shooting randomly across the green. He had been to the club pro for help, but nothing had changed.

That was until yesterday. Towards the end of his session with me, firstly he holed an amazing chip from thirty yards, over a very tricky green. A shot that he would have been terrified of previously!

Then he followed it up, to show that it was no fluke, with an exquisite chip, to within six inches of the hole, from another difficult position twenty yards off the green.

A transformation had happened to his short game. What transformation would you like to happen to your game?

Dave Jerem - Overcomes The Yips!

You may not have heard of Dave Jerem. He's a club golfer from Yorkshire. Loves his golf, plays off a reasonable handicap. But Dave's love of golf had been diminishing for years. The yips had taken hold of his driving, and his shots were going all over the place.

Dave called me urgently seeking a solution to the problem. Either that, or his clubs were going for sale on ebay!

I spent two hours with Dave on the driving range. His yips were solved after 30 mins actually. Anyhow Dave had this to say about the process:

'I can now state without any hesitation, that my full swing yips has miraculously vanished into thin air. I am now actually enjoy playing again and look forward to my next round instead of the previous trepidation of playing.

I cant thank you enough, and as a declared sceptic, I find it truly amazing that after just one session of two hours, I have not had a single incident since. Many thanks once again.

Please feel free to include this email as a testimonial.

If there are other guys out there who are suffering from this affliction, i hope my experience can give them a ray of sunshine at the end of what is a very dark tunnel'.

The cost of the session is normally £345. You might think that's expensive. I understand that. But the feeling that you will get, when you start converting those birdie chances, or hitting it long and straight off the tee, is priceless. Like walking on air.
