Confidence Coaching Can Do For You, What It Did For Them!
Greg Tansey Can't Stop Scoring!
Greg Tansey is one of the brightest young prospects in English football. He plies his trade with Stockport County, but it wont be long before Greg is playing at a higher level.
Greg contacted me recently, to get help in matching his performances to his potential. Inconsistency had been affecting his game.
Within hours of our first conversation, Greg had notched two goals, in a draw against Crewe Alexandra. Then he followed that up with a brace in a vital away win against Barnet. Then Greg won the League Two Player Of The Month Award for January.
With the self-confidence now flowing, Greg is on fire. (Since this was initially written, Greg has been signed by Terry Butcher at Invernesss Caledonian Thistle, and is already attracting the attention of scouts, through his outstanding performances in the SPL)
What could you achieve if your confidence matched your ability?
Billy Twelvetrees Puts Quins To The Sword
Last season, Matt O'Connor the Head Coach of Premiership rugby champions Leicester Tigers, invited my colleague Nalin Jay and myself, to work with young Tigers protegy Billy Twelvetrees.
Billy has been filling in for England international Toby Flood at fly-half, during the internationals. And Matt felt that it would do Billy's confidence the power of good, to have some input on the mental side of the game.
On Friday night at Welford Road, Billy put Harlequins to the sword, in an awesome display of kicking. Landing all of Leicester's eighteen points, including two penalties landed from well inside his own half. Matt O'Connor described Billy's display as 'exceptional'. The Daily Telegraph noted that Billy Twelvetrees had served notice to England coach Martin Johnson. Sky Sports named Billy Man Of The Match, and called him 'the saviour of Welford Rd'.
What could you achieve with a boost to your confidence?
Glamorgan Win At Lords, For The First Time Since 1954!
Matthew Maynard is the former Head Coach at Glamorgan County Cricket Club. In the 2010 pre-season, Matthew invited me to help with his players mental preparation.
Its been a very long time since Glamorgan won a County Championship cricket match at Lords. Fifty-six years in fact. But that stop situation was finally broken, when the Welsh side crushed Middlesex by seventy-six runs in the second game of the 2010 season.
Glamorgan then followed that success, with a dramatic two-day win at Worcester. The first time they have won a match in two days since 2002! And this is the first time that Glamorgan have won two games in April - ever!
Then Glamorgan crushed Northampton by an innings, to move up to second in the County Championship table. This was followed up another innings win, this time over Gloucestershire. The first time Glamorgan
have won successive matches by an innings since 1948.
Then amazingly, Glamorgan set a world record in their next match, a stunning defeat of Leicestershire. Trailing by 125 runs on the first-innings, Glamorgan bowled The Foxes out for only 71 runs. Then went on the get the winning total of 196 runs, without the loss of a wicket. A world-record for a team trailing by such a first-innings deficit.
Glamorgan won only two County Championship matches in 2009. In the 2010 season they won seven matches. A significant improvement. What stop-situation would you like to overcome?
Arsenal's Title Challenge Left In Tatters!
Wigan Athletic were in serious relegation trouble at the back end of the 2009-10 season. With the pressure on, manager Roberto Martinez turned to my colleague Gary Leboff and myself for advice.
Within three days the Latics had ruined Arsenal's title ambitions, coming from two goals down, to secure a momentus three-two victory at the DW Stadium. A result that Sky's Paul Merson described as 'a miracle'.
But it wasn't a miracle. There was a reason that Wigan overcame the Gunners. And that was down to the injection of confidence and belief that Roberto Martinez and his players received.
What 'miracles' could you achieve, with an powerful injection of confidence?
Mark Walsh Couldn't Win On TV!
Last year I received a call from Mark Walsh. Mark is one of the world top darts players. A player many think has the potential to become one of the very best. However he has never played to his potential in big TV games.
So Mark asked me to help him overcome this problem. In his first event since we began work, he put Dennis Ovens to the sword in the Grand Prix Of Darts, in Dublin.
Then in the 2011 World Darts Championships in London, Mark reached the third round of the event for the first time in his career. This, after beating Alan Tabern in one of the longest matches of the tournament.
Mark came from two sets down to beat 'The Saint' and secure a momentous victory, that was testimony to his new found mental-strength and confidence.
Mark had this to say to Sky Sports about our work.'I've had trouble with doubles for six months, losing matches I should never have lost. Martin has told me about things, that have turned my game around. I've only been seeing Martin for three weeks, but he's helped me big-time'.
Mark went on to tell the TV station, 'I'll keep seeing him, and have a chat before my next game, to make sure my mind is right'.
What long-standing confidence issue have you had enough of?
Shaun Harrod Hat-Trick Hero!...
Shaun Harrod was a striker for Burton Albion FC ( now Bury FC). I worked with Shaun, when he was experiencing a minor goal-drought.
Very shortly after we started our sessions, Shaun smashed a fantastic second-half hat-trick against Rotherham United at the Don Valley Stadium, his first in his professional career.
Then Shaun was announced as League Two Player Of The Month for October. A fitting tribute to the burgeoning confidence of this young player.
In early November 2010, Shaun smashed a late winner for The Brewers at Chesterfield, to impose the first home defeat of the season on The Spirerites.
Then Shaun went on to make a name for himself nationally, after scoring two late goals, to sensationally put Burton into the fourth round of the FA Cup, for the first time in their history.
Shaun Harrod on fire. And so will you be when your confidence is overflowing!
Bryony Page - Fourth In The World...Two Years After Nearly Giving Up!
Recently in Metz, English trampolinist Bryony Page came fourth in the World Championships. A fantastic achievement. Especially considering that two years ago, Bryony was suffering from a severe case of Lost Move Syndrome.
Lost Move Syndrome occurs to performers in the gymnastic disciplines, when they cannot remember how to complete a move. Usually as a result of a mistake they have made. Its very hard to resolve, and causes many young people to give up their sports.
Bryony called me desperate for help, having exhaused every other avenue. Her confidence was so low she had stopped performing and competing. Within three months after speaking to me, Bryony was not just performing again, but winning the National Championhips at Birmingham.
Now Bryony has a glittering career ahead of her. A chance to realise her full potential. What could you achieve with your confidence restored!
Dave Jerem - Overcomes The Yips!
You may not have heard of Dave Jerem. He's a club golfer from Yorkshire. Loves his golf, plays off a reasonable handicap. But Dave's love of golf had been diminishing for years. The yips had taken hold of his driving, and his shots were going all over the place.
Dave called me urgently seeking a solution to the problem. Either that, or his clubs were going for sale on ebay!
I spent two hours with Dave on the driving range. His yips were solved after 30 mins actually. Anyhow Dave had this to say about the process:
'I can now state without any hesitation, that my full swing yips has miraculously vanished into thin air. I am now actually enjoy playing again and look forward to my next round instead of the previous trepidation of playing.
I cant thank you enough, and as a declared sceptic, I find it truly amazing that after just one session of two hours, I have not had a single incident since. Many thanks once again. Please feel free to include this email as a testimonial.
If there are other guys out there who are suffering from this affliction, i hope my experience can give them a ray of sunshine at the end of what is a very dark tunnel'.
Micky Adams Was Sceptical…
Micky Adams is a very experienced football manager. He’s been in the game a fair while. And he isn’t frightened to call a spade a spade.
Micky called me up in 2009, when one of his key defenders was struggling. The lad started the season on fire. Then, out of nowhere, his Confidence plummeted.
Micky, for all his experience, was completely stumped. He couldn’t solve the problem. So he called me, knowing that I was an expert on Confidence In Sport. Despite that, he was still cynical when he called me. He’s rather old-school is Micky.
He asked me, in his typically direct way, if I had some sort of ‘magic pill’ to restore lost Confidence. Difficult one to answer that. The best response I could give Micky, was to take his defender who had lost all confidence in his game, and fix the problem. I did that in 30 mins over the phone.
Micky’s player was Man Of The Match the next game. Micky was pretty happy I can tell you. What confidence problem would you like me to solve in double-quick time for you?
