Is the guardian of the game's core values. Their perceptions help them see beyond the immediate needs of their club, to serve the game as a whole. Their original thinking changes the way the game evolves both tactically, structurally and organisationally.
The Manager : Herbert Chapman
Named the greatest manager of all-time by The Times, Chapman is one of only three managers in history who have managed to win the League Championship with two separate clubs. His success in the inter-war years revolutionized the perception of the manager within football, making apparent the positive effect a manager can have.
As early as 1925, under Chapman's auspices, Huddersfield were employing expert scientific training methods to lengthen their careers.
Chapman employed the defensive centre half; he advocated numbered shirts; he wanted to introduce the white ball; he was keen to introduce floodlights; he got London Transport to change the name of the tube station ;above all he wanted Arsenal to become the greatest club in the world.
