Do These Tell-Tale Signs Of Fragile Confidence, Undermine Your Natural Talent?
You May Have Bags Of Ability. You May Be Hugely Talented. But What If Your Confidence Is Shot To Pieces?
It's a bad feeling. The worst. You walk off, head bowed. You don't want to meet anyone's eye. The game has come and gone. And you have under-performed. Again.
Everyone keeps telling you that things will change. But when? And how?
You might even feel like just giving up. Calling it a day.
But no, you are better than that. You are determined to keep going. At least for a while longer. But things have to change. Surely it doesn't have to be this way?
There must be an answer. There must be...
Is Your Confidence Being Undermined?
You may have talent. You may have plenty of ability. But it counts for nothing, if your performance is undermined, by any one of these five self-defeating behaviours:
-
You Feel That Whatever You Do Is Never Good Enough - A Perfectionist Streak
-
You Make The Wrong Decisions - Especially Under Pressure
-
You Experience Fear Of Failure - Or Fear Of Success
-
You Lack Belief In Yourself - Even Though You Have The Talent
-
You Dwell On Your Mistakes - And Then Make More Of Them
If this sounds familiar, then I invite you to read on...
1: Whatever You Do Isn't Good Enough - A Perfectionist Streak...
European Tour Winner and Ryder Cup legend, Colin Montgomerie recently said, that the reason he never won a Major title, in his illustrious playing career, was because of a perfectionist streak. He went to four Majors every season, wanting to play his game at a level of 10/10. In other words, to play perfect golf.
This was because, he thought his rivals would all bring their 'A games' to the Majors. All be at their very best.
And secondly, because of the great history of those tournaments. He built the events up in his mind to epic proportions. And so put himself under far too much pressure to perform.
It was only when Padraig Harrington won his first Major in 2007, that Monty realised that playing at a level of 8/10 would have been good enough to win a Major. For Padraig didn't play perfect golf at Carnoustie in 2007. He simply managed his game better than the other players.
What does playing at 8/10 mean? It means being able to consistently do the simple things well. To not try to be perfect. And, this simple strategy is guaranteed to build up your confidence.
Do you, like Monty, put yourself under pressure to be perfect? And then beat yourself up when your not? Perfectionism can eat away at self-confidence. Whatever you do isn't good enough.
Would you like to perform in a much more relaxed way, that delivers results. Without having to be perfect! How much of a relief would that be?
What if you were shown how to play at a level of 8/10. And still win!
2: You Make The Wrong Decisions - Especially Under Pressure...
All sports involve decision-making. And the quality of your decision-making, has a critical bearing on your outcomes. When England won the Rugby World Cup in 2003, Sir Clive Woodward pointed out, that Johnny Wilkinson's drop goal winner, was the result of him and the team, Thinking Correctly Under Pressure. Or TCUP as Sir Clive named it.
Perhaps you make the wrong decisions, because you are not thinking clearly. And the reason that you are not thinking clearly, is because you haven't mentally prepared properly, for your game or event.
You have no plan. You try to wing it. Deal with things as they come up. Sometimes you might get away with it. Usually you won't.
What if you were shown how to improve the quality of your decision-making. What if you no longer began events, feeling mentally unprepared?
What if you were shown how to prepare for your sport, in such a way, that led to consistently better decision-making?
The better the decisions you make, the more your confidence will grow. The more your confidence grows, the better the quality of your decision-making. Is that something you would like to experience?
3: You Experience Fear Of Failure - Or Fear Of Success...
Have you ever been in a situation, where you have the chance to score a goal in football? Or take out a double in darts? Or make a birdie at golf? Or close out a match in tennis?
But somehow you didn't. You know you had the ability. But you were scared of missing. In case you lost.
And that fear of missing, caused you to tighten. To choke. Maybe for your palms to sweat.
You see it all the time in penalty shoot-outs, where an experienced player hits a very tame penalty at the keeper. Or blazes wildly over the bar. Remember Roberto Baggio, 'The Divine Ponytail', in the 1998 World Cup Final?
You didn't know why at the time. But afterwards, when you thought about it, it was obvious. Yet, maybe you are still not sure what to do about it.
It's not a good feeling when this happens, is it? You rue those missed opportunities for days, even weeks afterwards. You could have won. But you didn't.
What if you were shown how to overcome fear of failure, so that you grasp the golden opportunities when they come your way?
What if it was revealed how to prepare for those game changing moments, so that you can be confident and clinical, when you need to be. Would that make a difference to your game?
4: You Lack Belief In Yourself - Even Though You Have The Talent...
Maybe you have the talent. You know it. And everyone tells you so. But, your performances don't show it. You under perform. Time and time again. And you don't quite know why.
As if you don't quite back yourself. Take the easy options. Stay in the comfort zone. Instead of really going for it.
You see it in players, who never breakthrough to the top level. Even though they may have the same level of raw talent, as those who have broken through. It's not a question of talent. It's a question of how the player, thinks about that talent.
That belief is under the surface. But it needs bringing out. It needs bringing out in you!
When you believe in yourself, confidence flows, and you start performing to your potential.
What if your self-belief was so strong, that you felt what it is like, to be a winner and a champion again!
What if you were shown belief-building strategies, to help you focus on what you do well. And turn weaknesses into strengths. So that step by step, your belief grows, and your talent is matched by your performances!
5: You Dwell On Your Mistakes - And Then Make The Same Mistakes Again..
Whatever your sport, you will make mistakes. That's normal. It's part and parcel of the game.
But its how you react to those mistakes, that makes a difference. Mentally strong and confident players, can put mistakes behind them. Move on quickly. Don't associate themselves with the mistake.
Perhaps, in the middle of a game, you dwell on your mistakes. You think, 'Why did I do that?' 'What was I thinking of?' And when you dwell on a mistake, your mind can wander and concentration weaken. Leading to another mistake.
Quickly your confidence falls to pieces, as you beat yourself up for having made another error. You know it happens, but you don't know what to do about it.
Do you recognise this scenario? What if you were shown how to put mistakes behind you. Leading to better concentration, less mistakes and more success.
My Name Is Martin Perry - I Solve Confidence Problems...
Have you ever seen the film Pulp Fiction? It stars Samuel L Jackson (Jules Winnfield) and John Travolta (Vincent Vega). It was a huge box office hit for director Quentin Tarantino.
My favourite character, is the one expertly played by Harvey Keitel. His name is Winston Wolf.
Winston comes into the film late on. There is a body, in a car in Jimmy's (Tarantino's)garage. Blood everywhere. And Jimmy's unsuspecting wife Bonnie, a nurse, will be home from work in fifty minutes. It's a problem. And there's only one man who can solve it.
Winston Wolf receives the call from Vincent Vega. He says he will be at Jimmy's house in ten minutes. Winston's there in nine minutes thirty seven seconds. He rings the door bell and announces himself. My name's Winston Wolf. I solve problems.
By the time Bonnie gets home, all traces of chaos and mayhem have gone. Winston Wolf is nowhere to be seen. He's conducting business elsewhere.
I Am Not Curt. And I Don't Talk Fast...
Winston Wolf's method, is that he goes about the job, with the minimum of fuss, and the maximum of effectiveness. Getting results, is all that matters to Winston Wolf. The secret of his success, is in the clarity of his thinking.
I'm slightly different to Winston Wolf. I'm not American, I'm from Blackpool, England. I'm not curt. Neither do I talk fast. And I don't use 'naval language', unless I absolutely have to.
But, like him, my strength is to be able to get to the heart of the matter, with the minimum of fuss, and the maximum of clarity.
I get phone calls everyday, from people in sport wanting me to resolve problems. Not bodies in the garage, that need 'dealing with'. But urgent calls that ask me to rebuild lost confidence.
Micky Adams Had A Problem That Needed Resolving...
A typical example, is one I was handed last season, from the former Leicester City, Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Micky Adams. Micky had a big problem.
One of his defenders and key players, had been experiencing a serious lack of confidence, for a number of games. And Micky, for all his years of managerial experience, couldn't resolve the issue.
So he called me. Micky was sceptical. He asked me if I had some sort of 'magic pill' to sort out a players confidence. You can't really answer that directly. The only response I could give Micky, was to speak to his player.
He and I had a 30 min chat. We spoke about where his confidence had gone. Why it had gone. And I showed him, what he had to do to regain that lost confidence.
The next night, the defender, refocused and revitalised. went out and won the Man Of The Match Award. He played with supreme confidence. With great belief in himself. And this after just a thirty minute phone call.
It Used To Take Me A Month To Do, What I Can Now Do In An Hour...
I've been liberating confidence since 1996. Back then, it would take me a month or more to restore a performers confidence. I got results. But it took time.
Now I can make a difference in a single phone call, or face to face meeting. Why? Because experience has taught me, exactly where confidence goes when we lose it. And, more importantly, what I need to do to rebuild it. I know all the tell-tale signs of lost confidence. And the secrets of how to get it back.
If you are experiencing a loss of confidence in your sport or business, your probably thinking that things will never change. That it will always be this way. Maybe you are on the verge of quitting. It's all too much for you.
My personal advice to you, is don't. Help is at hand.
'Stoney' Rolls Back The Years
Recently I was called by Speedway legend Carl Stonehewer. 'Stoney', is one the sports icons. He's ridden in the Grand Prix's and the World Cup. There's nothing he doesn't know about the sport.
But after a poor start to the current season at Redcar Bears, Carl called me for help. He was at a low ebb, and thinking about packing in the sport he has served with such distinction.
After one conversation with me, things immediately changed. I got Carl thinking correctly again. He took a new improved strategy into races, and very quickly the spark, and the confidence came flooding back.
The papers talked about Carl rolling back the years, as he put Sheffield to the sword, in an immaculate display of fearless riding for The Bears.
If you want to get your confidence back, follow the lead of Carl Stonehewer, and call me.
The Impossible Is Nothing...
Last year, I received a call from Nigel Blundell, the Great Britain trampolining coach. One of his talented performers, Bryony Page, was suffering from a bad case of 'lost move syndrome'. It's similar to the 'yips', that golfers and darts players experience.
The experienced GB coaches weren't able to resolve the problem. And with no one to help her, Bryony, a 2012 Olympic hopeful, was on the verge of giving up, the sport she loved. This is a common trait, when confidence is lost for any length of time. A breakthrough seems impossible. You just can't see how things will ever change.
After a series of telephone conversations and meetings with me, Bryony began to get her lost moves back. Her confidence and belief started to grow. Within three months, she was crowned National Champion at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
What could you achieve, if you had your confidence back?
A Breakthrough In Ghana...
A representative from Ghana's football champions Asante Kotoko, contacted me recently. They had been on a five game winless run. And had to play their fierce rivals, Accra Hearts Of Oak, away at the Ohene Djan Stadium. A venue they hadn't won at for sixteen years.
My telephone consultation, suggested immediate ideas to create player unity and togetherness. Ideas that would restore confidence, and overcome doubts and uncertainty.
I'm delighted to report, that this long-standing jinx was broken with a courageous 1-0 away win. And the celebrations are still continuing in Ghana.
What stop situation, would you like me to help you break?

Saying 'You Can Do It' Will Not Get Your Confidence Back...
As a sports professional, when you lose your confidence, it can be very frustrating and un-nerving. Your livelihood depends on it. You know there's a recurring problem. But you don't know how to fix it.
The coaches may say things like, 'Keep going', or ' Things will turn for you'. But when will they turn? And why will they turn?
The harder you try, the worse it seems to get. Is that how it is for you?
The reason that your coaches 'enthusiasm' doesn't solve the problem, is that there is probably nothing wrong with your attitude. The issue lies in your confidence. And coaches aren't always trained, to help you rebuild lost confidence. It's simply too subtle a problem.
When you lose your confidence, it causes anxiety and tension. It builds self-doubt. It creates a feeling of uncertainty. You wonder if you will ever get your confidence back.
Here Are Some Of The Sports I Work In...
My work as a Confidence Coach is to assist individuals and teams to play with Supreme Confidence.
- I give confidence to Footballers, to help them rediscover their goalscoring form
- I rebuild the confidence of Golfers, to help them overcome their doubts
- I make Tennis Players become mentally tough, to help them through tight matches
- I support Darts Players, to help them finish off games, under pressure
- I liberate Cricketers from doubt, to help them play their natural game
- I work with Teams to help them work together as one
- I support Managers to improve their motivation and leadership skills
I also work in the sports of Ice-Skating, Athletics, Gaelic Football, Gymnastics, Trampolining, Polo, Croquet, Boxing, Show Jumping, Speedway, and Rowing.
Note: Supreme Confidence is like being 'In The Zone'. It means that when you play, you feel that everything you try is going to come off. It's a fantastic feeling.
I Want You To Breakthrough...
Here's what you will get, if you hire me as your Confidence Coach.
I tell it like it is. From our first conversation I will pinpoint the reasons why you have lost your confidence. Then, give you a very clear strategy to regain it. You will very quickly start to feel the surge of confidence and hope return.
My agenda is simple. I want you to breakthrough and succeed. You will no longer feel alone, with low confidence.
Remember - you could wait and hope that by magic, your confidence returns. But experience tells me that rarely happens. There is a reason why you have lost your confidence. I am here to help you to return to your confident best.
What's The First Step?
Most clients like to have a chat with me first. That gives them a good feel of how I work, and how I will restore their confidence. My personal number is 077897 56425
That conversation will give me chance to discover where your confidence has gone. And why it has gone. That first chat will feel like a massive weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
For you will have found someone, who understands what is happening to you. Why it is happening. And, more importantly, what to do about it.
How Much Will It Cost Me?
So - you are probably thinking how you will afford to pay for this transformation in your sporting or business life? This fantastic opportunity to finally liberate your talent.
Well, I'm going to surprise you. The good news is, you won't have to take out a loan, or a second mortgage to pay for this opportunity!
My costs are simple and I believe, very fair and affordable. I only charge £1.50 per minute for a transforming call with me. That's right.
A mere £1.50 for the satisfaction of being able to perform with supreme confidence. A decent ice-cream costs more than that these days!
So that means that we can create a schedule around your needs and budget, that suits you perfectly. When you call me, we can decide the length of the calls that you will need to rebuild your confidence, and the frequency of them.
For those in professional sport, I ask for a Performance Bonus, to be paid on top of the basic charge. This is negotiated separately with each individual or team. This bonus is a recognition of the difference my work has made to their performance.
You'll Need To Act Fast...
I believe that £1.50 per minute is a very fair and generous price. But if you want to take advantage of it, then you will need to act pretty quickly.
Because, from the 1st December, I will be raising the price to £2.50 per minute. Which, I still believe is a very good deal. But if you get in touch before the 1st December, I'll give you the £1.50 price. Even if we start work in December!
But more importantly, I encourage you to act quickly, because I only work with a limited number of individuals and teams.
This is because, I give all of my clients, full and total personal support. I become part of the team, and so make sure I create the opportunity, to spend the quality time necessary, for you to breakthrough.
Here's What To Do Next...
If you like what you have read, and are keen to take things further, there are two options:
1- On the right hand menu, choose the sport that you want to develop more confidence in. If your sport is not listed on the menu, look under Other Sports. There you will find a Contact Form to complete.
2- CALL ME directly on 0044(0) 77897 56425. We can have a chat about your situation, and I will tell you, how I will help you resolve the problem.
You could have your confidence back, sooner than you think.
