Become A Sports Psychologist

Martin Perry Sports PsychologyIt’s one of the greatest jobs in the world.

If you love sport. NO. Are obsessed by sport, then there is no better thing than being a Sports Psychologist.

You get the opportunity and satisfaction to work with sports people across the world. And help them maximise their talent!

Yes – It Was Frowned Upon!

When I first started my sports psychology business in 1998, it was seen as very much a niche occupation.

Sports psychology was frowned upon by a lot of people, in a lot of sports.

You were seen as weird if it was discovered you were seeing someone such as me.

Like, there must be something wrong with you!

But now it’s very much part of the mainstream.

Every sport uses psychologists and mental coaches in some way.

  • Top golfers consult their psychologist before heading into the final round of a major.
  • Sports psychologists sit behind top Premier League matches on match-day.
  • You see them sitting alongside the player coaches at Wimbledon.
  • Snooker players return to the action at The Crucible having consulted their psychologist in the mid-session interval.
  • Look ringside at any top boxing match up and you will see a sports psychologist amongst the retinue.

There’s No Better Time

That means there is no better time to be a sports psychologist.

The demand for sports psychology in 2021 is huge.

My mailbox is filled every day with enquiries from sports people seeking my help.

They are under-performing and need my help in getting back on track.

The pressure to succeed at at levels of sport has never been greater.

Players and teams want the competitive edge.

And that edge is the mental edge.

As a sports psychologist you will help your clients:

  • Mentally prepare so that they are relaxed and confident going action
  • Give them tools to calmly solve problems in the white heat of competition.
  • Help them understand their opponent, better than the opponent knows themselves!
  • Quickly overcome the burden of a defeat
  • Develop the qualities of a winner and champion!

Do You Need To Have Played In the Sports You Work In?

Since 1998 I have worked in over 32 different sports.

People often ask me,’Do you have had to have played a sport to help someone?’

The answer is NO!

Sometimes it’s better to know nothing about the dynamics of a sport.

That way you bring fresh thinking and a beginners mind to the subject in hand.

As was the case with me when Bryony Page called around 2009.

Bryony was an emerging GB trampolinist. But had suffered Lost Move Syndrome.

I knew very little about trampolining. Or Lost Move Syndrome.

But I agreed to try to help her. Why?

Because I pride myself on the ability to get to the root of a problem.

It’s one of the things you will need if you want to do this work.

  • An enquiring and analytical mind.
  • An endless curiosity.
  • A love of helping people

Imagine my satisfaction when in 2010, Bryony won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

And afterwards she spoke glowingly about how the work we did on Lost Move Syndrome gave her the mental strength which was vital in the white heat of Olympic competition.

You can have these kind of experiences too!

For The First Time Ever!

Because for the first time ever I am going to share the winning tips and strategies I have developed over 23 years.

People have asked me many times over the years, if I would take them under my wing, and show them step by step how to build a successful sports psychology business.

I’ve always resisted. The time just didn’t feel right.

But now the moment has come.

Yes the sports psychology market is crowded with practitioners.

But I will show you how to stand out from the crowd, and cut through the noise.

Not only that but I will help you create strategies that turn your expertise into a thriving business.

This won’t be a group programme.

Absorb The Mindset

I will be working with you on a one to one basis.

There for you every step of the way as you absorb the mindset of a top sports psychologist.

Everything we do will be practical.

No intellectual theories.
